At one time it was the site of a thoroughbred nursery that was famous for breeding and training championship race horses and was one of the largest private estates in Nashville. Much of its acreage was developed into Belle Meade Park. Today the mansion and remaining plantation functions as a museum reflecting rhe grandeur of the 1880's.
